Sharla Vega CPA
Favorite quote: “You must pay taxes. But there’s no law saying you gotta leave a tip.” – Morgan Stanley
Sharla Vega is a native of Kansas and got her BBA degree in Finance from Washburn University in Topeka in 1991. She and her husband moved to Loveland after her graduation.
Neither one of them had jobs in Colorado but she eventually began working for an insurance agent in Longmont and later for one in Fort Collins. Knowing insurance wasn’t her thing she decided to go back to college and graduated with a Masters of Science in Taxation from Colorado State University in 1998. She began working for a CPA firm in Greeley in September 1998 which later merged with the firm Leasa worked with, Kennedy & Coe, so they became office mates! Sharla left in 2002 to work for one of the partners who started her own CPA firm in Greeley.
Sharla received her CPA certification 2003 and also that year, her husband had the opportunity to transfer to Corvallis, OR so they moved but she continued to telecommute to Greeley until 2014. She specializes in tax preparation of Partnership, LLC, S-Corporation, C-Corporation and fiduciary returns for estates and trusts as well as individual returns. She is licensed in both Colorado and Oregon and is a member of the Oregon Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
In her spare time Sharla enjoys traveling, making beaded jewelry, photography, hiking and spending time with her husband and their two very spoiled cats.
Leasa Magnuson CPA
Favorite quote: “The difference between death and taxes is death doesn’t get worse every time Congress meets.” – Will Rogers
Leasa Magnuson is a native of Colorado. She grew up in a small town in Northern Colorado and went to Aims Community College while her children were in elementary school. When she transferred to University of North Colorado with an old lady scholarship (actually referred to as the non-traditional minority scholarship) she had to get serious about carrying a full load. She received a BS Degree with an Emphasis in Accounting from the University of Northern Colorado in December of 1998.
She continued to balance work life with family life by working for Kennedy & Coe in Greeley from September to May in the tax department of their Greeley office. She earned her CPA certificate in 2003 and is now a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, serves on the finance committee and board of a couple local non-profit organizations.
After three years at Kennedy & Coe she moved to Sample & Bailey CPAs in Fort Collins. She kept the same cushy work schedule until her kids grew up and had jobs of their own and then she moved to a full time work schedule and became a supervisor and then a tax manager. In April of 2009 she left Sample & Bailey, CPAs to start her own CPA firm with Shannon Spangler and Jackie Signorelli. Shannon and Jackie soon discovered they hated tax preparation and have moved on to greener pastures in the accounting profession.
Leasa specializes in tax preparation of Partnership, LLC, S-Corporations and C-Corporations as well as individuals. She has experience with family owned businesses with a fondness for Real Estate Rentals and Property Management. She has assisted clients understand several 1031 exchanges. Faye Dorcey, Administrative Assistant
My husband John and I moved to Colorado in 1989 from California. We were soon blessed with two daughters Jessica and Jennifer. And it’s been a real adventure ever since!
I was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom while we raised the girls and wouldn’t trade that “job” for anything in the world. My family is my greatest accomplishment. As the girls were growing up they played soccer, took dance class and played T-ball. While that was fun and all it really wasn’t “Family Fun”.
Our life changing event happened one weekend when we asked our friends, Leo and Ellen, to watch Jessica (2 at the time) while we went white water rafting with some family. While we were gone Leo and Ellen taught Jessica to ride his “Grandma” horse. By the time we got back she was standing up on Grandma going in circles in the round pen and smiling the whole time. It took everything we had to peel her from the horse. After Jennifer came along, when she turned 2, it was her turn and Leo taught her to ride too. Leo taught our whole family to ride and our passion for horses was born! Leo gave us our first horse, Audaz, twenty years ago, and we still have him.
For the last twenty 28 years my life has been all about my family and horses. It’s been a labor of LOVE. When the girls went off to college I needed something to do and decided to go back to work. With my interest in numbers and finance I only wanted to work part time and having been in banking many years ago, thought that might be fun to do/work. I worked part-time in banking for the last 7 years. While in banking I met a friend that would later lead me to Leasa.
I like working with numbers, taxes and finance. I’m looking forward to working for Leasa until it kills me, she kills me or I retire.
