Increase Your Donation without Increasing Your Cash Out of Pocket

Posted on November 30, 2011 by Leasa Magnuson in Individual Tax

Last week I talked about getting twice the tax benefit by donating to a Colorado child care facility. This week I’m going to tell you how to increase the cash given to the facility without you having to increase the amount of the check you write!

It’s easy. All you have to do is go to www.givingfirst.org/cogivesday on December 6th (next Tuesday) and donate online. FirstBank has set aside $300,000 as an incentive fund. At the end of the day, Community First Foundation will determine each nonprofit’s total from donor’s online contributions. Each nonprofit will then receive a portion of the $300,000 incentive funds. So if you donate $100 to an early learning center such as Teaching Tree Early Childhood Learning Center, you will receive a charitable contribution deduction on your federal tax return for $100, a Colorado child care contribution credit of $50 (carried forward to 2013) and Teaching Tree will receive your $100 plus a portion of the $300,000 incentive fund. So go ahead what are you waiting for? Add a reminder to your calendar to visit www.givingfirst.org/cogivesday on December 6th and give to the charity of your choice. Last year Coloradoan’s donated $8.7 million on Colorado Gives Day, let’s see if we can surpass that!
