The IRS would really like all taxpayers to e-file their returns. Turbo Tax has e-file options, HR Block has e-file options in fact any tax preparer with more than 100 returns is required to be on the IRS e-file system. So one would think that the IRS had a system in place to handle the 10 million electronic returns for individuals who filed an extension. But something went wrong during a planned computer server outage over the 3-day weekend that left the server down today just 4 days away from the October 15th deadline. Maybe they could use an extension!
I’m pretty sure there won’t be an extension so I better get back to work and finish up the last of my returns. Next week I promise to blog on something with a little more meat to it!
I just signed up to your blogs rss feed. Will you post more on this subject?
The IRS is archaic in how it does things, but it is moving towards paperless. It is really trying to have everyone file an electronic tax return and in 2011 payroll taxes will have to be remitted via EFTPS. No longer will it allow the voucher coupon to be deposited at the bank. I will keep my readers posted as new paperless attempts are made by the IRS!
